Diwali brings the UAE's biggest gold-buying week, festival raffles in Dubai, and offers on sweets, ethnic wear and electronics for the large Indian community.
Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026 (Dhanteras on 6 November). Dubai's Diwali celebrations and jewellery promotions usually start about ten days before; dates are announced in October.

Diwali 2026 in the UAE
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, the traditional day for buying gold. It isn't a public holiday in the UAE, but Dubai holds a citywide Diwali celebration with raffles, concerts and retail offers.
In 2025 the celebration ran for ten days before Diwali, with a luxury car, Dh150,000 in gold vouchers and Dh150,000 in cash to be won. Expect a similar programme to be announced in October.
Gold and jewellery
Gold prices in Dubai follow the international rate, so the price per gram doesn't drop for Diwali. The savings come from everything around it:
- Making charges. Some jewellers cut them sharply or to zero during the festival. This is where most of the saving is.
- Free gold coins above a spend threshold. In 2025, Dubai Jewellery Group outlets gave free coins on purchases of Dh4,000 or more.
- Old-gold exchange with no deduction, offered by many jewellers during the campaign.
- Diamond and pearl discounts of up to 70% on selected pieces in 2025.
- Raffles. Spending Dh1,000 or more at participating outlets entered shoppers into draws for jewellery vouchers.
Compare making charges between two or three jewellers before you buy. On a 20-gram chain the difference can be several hundred dirhams.
Groceries, sweets and décor
Hypermarkets turn into Diwali stores in the weeks before the festival. Lulu runs its "Lulu Wali Diwali" range, and Carrefour and noon carry sweets, dry fruits, diyas and décor. Gift boxes of sweets and dry fruits are often discounted in the final week.
Ethnic wear and electronics
Ethnic-wear collections are discounted in malls and on noon and Amazon.ae, and many electronics retailers run Diwali promotions. Diwali also arrives just before 11.11 (11 November) and White Friday (27 November), so for big electronics it's often worth waiting a few weeks.
Sending money home
Exchange houses and money-transfer apps often run Diwali offers with better rates or zero fees. Compare the rate you actually get, not just the fee.
